Worldwide Orangutan Caring Week

PANGKALAN BUN – Orangutan Caring Week is a worldwide caring week for orangutans held every November. The program aims to focus on the preservation of orangutans and their habitat as well as biodiversity in Indonesia’s tropical rainforest areas.
As a form of concern, on November 11th, 2020, Indonesian Orangutan Foundation (Yayorin) in collaboration with PT Korintiga Hutani (KTH), Lamandau Regency Tourism Office (Dispar), and Orang-Utans in Not e.V held various education and conservation activities. The activities are in the form of planting or reforestation in the area of Bukit Batu Galugur and shirt painting competition themed Protecting Biodeversity For A Healthy Planet in Bina Bhakti, Sematu Jaya Village, Lamandau Regency. Also present was the Environment Division Manager of PT Korintiga Hutani Budi Pitaya, SHut who participated in various activities related to the program.
“For the planting or reforestation actitvity, PT Korintiga Hutani provided a donation of seedlings of local fruit trees and shade trees, as well as participated in the planting of 300 tree seedlings in the areas of Bukit Batu Galugur, Bina Bhakti Village, and Nanga Bulik Urban Forest, Lamandau Regency,” Budi Pitaya said.
Budi continued by saying that the planting or reforestation of Bukit Batu Galugur was carried out in connection with the plan from the Lamandau Regency Government and Bina Bhakti Village Government to turn the hill area into a nature tourism site. “This education and conservation activity is expected to be able to serve as a means of information to the public especially the younger generation to maintain and protect the existence of orangutans as well as the biodiversity and habitat in Lamandau Regency,” he hoped.
This activity, he further explained, is hoped to to be able to create positive changes for the surrounding environment. By turning Bukit Batu Galugur as an environmentally friendly tourism site, it is hoped that in the future, the existence of this tourism site can give good impact for the economy of the people in Bina Bhakti Village and its surroundings.
