CENTRAL KALIMANTAN – Korintiga Hutani (KTH) celebrated Indonesian Tree Planting Day this year with a planting event Friday (11/28), where 13 local endemic varieties were set in soil at the arboretum construction site in Pellita Base Camp. Participants were provided with seedlings of Bornean ironwood (ulin), Shorea species tengkawang and red meranti, as well as local fruits.
KTH’s president director Hironobu Abe led this final stage of the company’s arboretum project across a 4.6-hectare area, planting Bornean ironwood as a symbol of nature’s strength and resilience. Joining him were Director Park Jong Myung and Deputy General Manager Rais Sugito, each tasked with transplanting tengkawang and red meranti.
“Green the Earth, Restore Nature” highlights an ongoing commitment to conservation and educating younger generations. This event involved students from company-supported Rimba Pelita Elementary (SDS Rimba Pelita), as part of efforts to build early love for the environment.
Director Park Jong Myung talked about the arboretum, “We’re building this to safeguard biodiversity, as well as to educate and offer recreation. It’s our mission to create a ‘living classroom’, where kids are exposed to nature and grow a love for it. Involving them in activities like today’s means making a long-term investment, because these children can go on to change their neighborhoods and local ecosystems for the better. They represent hope and the future of our planet.”

All the seedlings prepared for planting are native to Kalimantan, with some species requiring protection, said KTH’s Planting and Maintenance Manager Karyadi. He saw tree-planting as a way the company meets its promise to “green the Earth and restore nature”.
Indonesian Tree Planting Day celebrations at Pellita Base Camp also featured a photography contest themed around the company and a naming competition for the arboretum.
These activities strengthened Korintiga Hutani’s role and commitment to promoting environmental conservation and building ecological awareness through community engagement in local forest preservation. (PR)
