Kotawaringin News, Lamandau – PT Korintiga Hutani (KTH) has distributed 500 staple food packages for people affected by the flood. The donation was sent through the Lamandau Regency Government, Monday, July 13, 2020.
As is known, in the last two weeks, the regency, nicknamed Bumi Bahaum Bakuba, was hit by severe flood. Hundreds of people’s homes, public facilities, and transportation access were drowned. Moreover, thousands of families spread across 7 sub-districts in Lamandau Regency have sufferred from the flood. Usual work activities are impossible to do.
The General Manager of PT KTH, Rais Sugito said that following the encouragement from the Regent of Lamandau, H. Hendra Lesmana to the business world to be able to help ease the burden of people affected by the flood, PT KTH decided to participate in distributing hundreds of staple food packages to the community affected by flood through Lamandau Regency Government.
“Today, (Monday, 7/13/2020), PT KTH through the CSR program distributed 500 staple food packages to Lamandau Regency Government to be given to the residents affected by the flood,” said Rais Sugito when met by the reporters after the symbolic handover ceremony of the donation to the Regent of Lamandau, H. Hendra Lesmana, Monday, July 13, 2020.
Rais continued by saying that the staple food packages provided by PT KTH consist of 200 sacks of 5 kg of rice, 200 boxes of instant noodles, and 100 boxes of mineral water. “Hopefully this little donation can help the need of residents who are affected by the flood disaster,” he said.
Rais explained that this donation of staple food packages is part of the company’s concern in handling the impact of flood in Lamandau Regency. PT KTH also promised to remain consistent in providing aid to the people affected by the flood.
“Seeing the condition, we will strive to keep holding these social activities by PT KTH, even though it is nothing compared to how many residents affected, but the company will keep paying attention to the community,” Rais said.
Meanwhile, the Regent of Lamandau, H. Hendra Lesmana appreciated the donation of staple food packages from PT KTH. The company was considered to have shown concern toward the victims of flood which caused a quite severe impact in a number of villages in Lamandau Regency.
“Thank you, PT KTH, we will distribute this donation through the Social Service and other relevant institutions, hopefully this social activity will encourage other companies and the business world to show their concern,” he said.
Hendra stated that in the past few days, flood has hit the upstream area of Lamandau River. Now, the flood has caused impact in villages around the downstream area. “The flood in upstream area has started to recede, however the downstream area has now been terribly impacted, worse than the first flood from last week.”
It should be mentioned that based on the newest data from the National Agency for Disaster Management (BPBD) of Lamandau, as many as 2,535 families with a total of 3,253 people spread across 7 sub-districts in Lamandau Regency were impacted by the flood. 136 people among them were forced to take refuge at the shelter location prepared by the Lamandau Regency Government.
