PANGKALAN BUN, radarsampit.com – On Tuesday (8/1/2023), PT. Korintiga Hutani signed a forestry partnership deal with the West Kotawaringin regency government and a group of local forest farming communities at the regent office hall. This group has members that spread across 11 villages and 1 urban village on 4,530 hectares of land owned by the company.
Developing long-term forestry collaborations is the responsibility of PT. Korintiga Hutani, said director Park Jung Myung. This practice is in line with the Director General of Sustainable Production Forest Management’s Regulation Number: P.5/PHPL/UHP/PHPL.1/2/2016 (Guide to Potential Mapping and Conflict Resolution for Production Forest Timber Utilization License Holders) and Environment and Forestry Ministerial Regulation 9/2021 (Social Forest Management).
“We hope to improve prosperity for everyone. We don’t want to grow alone. Local communities must always be involved,” Park stated.
Deputy General Manager Rais Sugito expected the partnership to “not only be on paper”, but work in practice and bring good results for the people.
Based on the agreement, PT. Korintiga Hutani will fully manage the 4,530 ha site, and profits will be shared with the surrounding villages through the farmer groups.
It will be up to each village to determine the revenue distribution mechanism. “It is our hope that nearby villages will be served through this collaboration, represented by forest farming communities,” Sugito said.
Meanwhile, Governor Santosa called the signing an “important step to achieve sustainable partnership between the private sector and civil society in terms of sustainable, community-impacting forest management.”
He also expressed his appreciation for the company, who initiated the pact.
“The principle is how we can work together to drive prosperity, especially in neighborhoods around this forest,” Santosa said.
He then emphasized the significance of follow-up action, which “must be taken immediately to let everyone feel the benefits of this relationship.”
“What’s needed is having a more detailed agreement to govern this cooperation as soon as possible.”
The forestry partnership is to provide farmer groups with opportunities to actively participate in sustainable forest management and utilization practices.
Synergy is expected between all parties to allow for sustainable use of the area’s resources and potential. (sam/sla)
